Endarterectomy

The arterial wall gets damaged due to disease and leads to plaque formation in the wall which slows down and in due course obstructs blood flow completely.

Endarterectomy is a surgical procedure that involves opening the diseased vessel, removing the opaque and repairing the vessel primarily. On occasion, it may not be possible to repair the vessel primarily and a bit of another vessel ( artery or vein) is used to to a patch repair.

There are no special risks associated with this repair and enables excellent blood flow restoration unlike in a balloon angioplasty alone.
