Treatments
Vascular and Endovascular surgery have become especially relevant during the time of COVID. The reason for this is that COVID causes extensive vascular changes with blood clots. forming al all parts of the body in some patients.
In most patients, this is managed with medicines but if critical blockages are there such as in acute arterial ischemia or deep vein thrombosis vascular and endovascular surgery procedures can be life and limb saving.
During this pandemic, we have gained extensive expertise in the management of such complex problems. Such problems have been treated with anti-coagulation, or embolectomy or thrombo-aspiration or thrombolysis as appropriate for the patient.
Since the Vascular Centre provides comprehensive care with both open surgery and minimally invasive ie endovascular procedures being available patients can get the treatment most appropriate to their disease and health.
The Vascular Centre is based at the Narayana Health City in Bangalore at its Bommasandra, Hosur Road Campus.
The vascular services started in 2008 and have grown rapidly since then. Today the Vascular Centre is recognized as one of the premium vascular facilities in the country.
As part of a large tertiary multi-specialty hospital we are involved in the care of a very large variety of cases- both simple and challenging. Being in a multi-disciplinary hospital means expertise is readily available for unusual and complex situations both within vascular surgery and from the many allied specialties.
Narayana Hrudayalaya is India’s largest cardiac hospital and does more heart surgeries every month than most large hospitals in the west do in a year!
The centre runs a daily OPD at the Hosur Road campus and team members are available in HSR Layout, Langford Town and Hosur for pre booked appointments. Open surgery is carried out on a daily basis with Cathlab procedures (Endovascular) being done three times a week.
Patients are seen either in the OPD or the emergency depending on need and a treatment plan is made. We have our own in house Ultrasound for Doppler assesments and planning and further CTscan/MRI/PET scan can all be done within the health city. Patients needing surgery will be given a date for the procedure (typically within a few days to a week- unless it is urgent). If general anesthesia is required a pre anesthetic check with allied investigations shall be organized prior to surgery. At any stage feel free to discuss the plan of management with your doctor.
We also have an Advanced Wound Care and Amputation Prevention Centre for dealing with complex wounds. We are shortly integrating a footwear service in house as many patients with diabetes and peripheral arterial disease need specialized footwear.
Our doctors are very involved in the training and teaching of vascular surgeons in Bangalore, India and all over the world. We are a sought after training unit for doctors interested in vascular surgery from all over India. In addition, we always have international doctors also undergoing training. This is due to the wide experience and expertise available at the center.
In addition, we are involved in numerous research projects with national and international collaboration.
